What is the “Igrot Kodesh” series?
It’s an easy and comfortable way of turning to the Rebbe שליט"א King Moshiach for problem resolution. Over the years the Rebbe wrote thousands of notes and letters to people who turned to him for advice, guidance and blessing. The appeals and answers dealt with an array of topics that relate to all facets of life that include society, education, family, politics, livelihood, business, military service, art, Torah study and more.
In the year 1987 the Rebbe gave instructions to publish these letters as part of the “Igrot Kodesh” series. Since then twenty three volumes have been printed and available to the public. Bear in mind that that Rebbe’s blessing as a prophet and leader of the generation guarantees a complete and true solution for any problem or adversity!

How does one ask for a blessing?
One washes both hands without a blessing, three times on both hands alternately, starting from the right hand, then the left and back again to the right. This is done in order to purify the body and soul before submitting a request.
Write whatever is in your heart in any language on the application for requesting a blessing. It’s important for the person requesting a blessing to write the full Jewish name and the name of his/her mother. Judaism declares that these names characterize the person, not the last name.
Make a firm resolution i.e. one decides to perform a mitzvah such as putting on tefillin, keeping kosher, keeping Shabbos and performing good deeds for the benefit of another. One declares, “Long live our master, our mentor and teacher, the King Moshiach, forever and ever!” and sends the request that reaches one of the volumes of the “Igrot Kodesh” as they were scanned on the Internet site. The software on site randomly and immediately responds with an answer.
The request is sent to the system that responds immediately with an answer that should be studied upon receipt. For assistance and advice contact us or the Chabad center nearest you.

THE REBBE KEEPS ON HEALING...
In 1997 Mrs. Helen S., an elderly lady in Brooklyn, suddenly developed a fever that she could not shake. No matter what the doctor prescribed, the fever persisted. It seemed that her situation was getting worse rather than better.
Over the next week or so she passed out several times for no apparent reason while her fever still persisted. It was decided by her family to admit her into the hospital, where they would run tests and once and for all get to the source of the problem. Over the next few days, while in the hospital, she passed out several times as well collapsing on the floor, adding physical injuries as well.
All the tests the doctor ordered did not show anything at all, yet Helen's situation kept deteriorating. To the point where she was becoming disillusioned, not knowing where she was, not recognizing her own family members, not speaking rationally and had no control of her actions. The doctors finally admitted defeat by telling the family "she is in the hands of G-d".
In sheer desperation, the family decided to ask the Rebbe King Moshiach for advice and a Blessing. The Rebbe's response was to follow the advice of the resident doctor at the hospital - who's theory differed from that of her doctors. Yet this is whom the Rebbe said to listen to. The resident doctor ordered a bone marrow test which correctly diagnosed her problem as being TB Meningitis. Mrs. S. was now able to be treated correctly and Thank G-d recovered completely.
Six years later, in July of 1996, Mrs. S. was unfortunately diagnosed with a severally deteriorating Leukemia condition. Now she was hospitalized for chemotherapy treatment. While in the hospital she suffered a mild stroke, which severally impeded her speech as well as her coordination.
One of her children, realizing the harsh side effects of chemotherapy, and seeing the physical impediments caused by the stroke, immediately wrote to the Rebbe for a Blessing. The Rebbe answered (in volume 22, page 170) not only with a blessing but with advice as well.
Because Helen was also given (by her daughter) the Rebbe's Mikveh water before going for chemotherapy, she never had any side effects. Within a short time her speech returned to normal. The daughter informed the Rebbe of the improvements in her mothers condition. In answer, the Rebbe said (in volume 18, page 160); "I was pleased to hear about the improvement in health, it should go from good to even better".
Today, to everyone's amazement, Mrs. Helen S. is in remission, walks around on her own, speaks normally and generally leads a normal life.
LEARN, AND YOUR FAITH WILL BE STRONG...
In 1996 Yael Frishman was invited to a friend's home for the Shabbos meal. She decided to tell a recent story of the Rebbe shlit'a King Moshiach to everyone at the table. No sooner did she conclude the story when someone exclaimed that these stories are all "bobemeises" (fairy tales). Yael did not respond to this remark. Her feeling was that any comment she would make would actually be belittling the Rebbe.
After the meal, as Yael walked home with her children, her son-in-law commented that the only reason people speak so is because they haven't learnt enough of what the Rebbe taught us. Therefore, they lack the proper faith. In order to cover that fact, they ridicule the person who believes. When they will learn more their faith will be strengthened and they will not laugh anymore.
Yael had been having some financial problems and decided to try her luck with a lottery ticket. On Friday afternoon she asked her son to buy her a ticket. As it was getting close to Shabbos, when he came home with the ticket Yael quickly took it and put it into a volume of Igros Kodesh which happened to be on the table.
When Shabbos was over her son-in-law noticed the lottery ticket in the Igrot Kodesh (book of Holy letters of the Rebbe). He assumed it was there to mark the page of an answer from the Rebbe. He opened it to read the letter on that page. After reading for several minutes he began to laugh. Yael did not tell him that she had put the ticket there randomly, as she wanted to hear what the Rebbe was in fact saying on that page. He began to read aloud: "The Rebbe acknowledges her letter of "Yom Shishi" (Friday), (when she put the ticket in)... it is praiseworthy for one to believe. Even if other's laugh, do not go into any arguments over it. Since one only laughs and has doubts because of lack of knowledge. Once they will learn more they will have more faith and will not laugh!" The Rebbe concluded the letter by saying; "This what you write about your debts, you should be careful to give charity before the morning and afternoon prayers and say the Tehillim (psalms) for the day".
Yael now realized just how much the Rebbe looks out for us! Had she looked in the Igros when she put the ticket in, she would have seen the answer to what transpired later during that Shabbos, as well as the solution to her financial situation!
OUR LOYAL REBBE...
Mrs. X. (who wishes to remain anonymous) was going through a very trying time; Her husband was not earning enough to support their family. He was very unhappy with his job and wanted to quit. Though Mrs. X. always wanted a large family and therefore was happy to be expecting another child, she had misgivings due to problems in her marriage.
When she first realized that she was pregnant, she immediately wrote to the Rebbe to inform him of the good news, as well as to ask for his blessings for an easy pregnancy and birth. She put her letter into a volume of the Igros, hoping to see a positive answer. To her dismay she did not receive any answer. She was rather upset, as under her present circumstances it would have meant allot to her to have the comfort of a blessing from the Rebbe.
It was during Chol Hamoed Pesach 1997 (the intermediate days of Pesach), when Mrs. X. had a big argument with her husband over a difference in their approach to a certain religious custom. Mr. X. had a more liberal view of things than his wife. In the heat of the argument he grabbed an Igros which happened to be nearby, (not realizing what he had grabbed) and randomly tore a page from it. His wife immediately removed the Igros from his hands, when she realized what he was tearing, but a page had already been torn out.
A while later, after they had settled their differences and things calmed down, they decided to see what the Rebbe was saying on this page that was torn out. They were both totally overwhelmed at what they read!; On page 373 (in Volume 18) of the Igros Kodesh, the Rebbe addressed the problem of how to deal with certain issues in a marriage, explaining that sometimes it is better to get a third objective person involved, as that can be more acceptable to the spouse. The Rebbe went on to suggest how to work out problems related to his job, so that he can go on working there without all the hardships he was experiencing until now.
In the last paragraph of the letter, the Rebbe answered Mrs. X.'s request of weeks before, by giving her a blessing for an easy pregnancy with the birth of a healthy child, in the right time.
Mr. and Mrs. X. were both so overcome at seeing how the Rebbe is there for them through "thick and thin", that it has made a lasting impression in their entire attitudes.
When Mrs. X.'s doctor showed concern about her pregnancy, Mrs. X. - while following the doctor's advice - is totally confident that all is well and will turn out well , as the Rebbe promised in his (unasked) blessing.
Questions and answers
-
Were the letters written only for Jews?
No. The “Igrot Kodesh” series is for anyone. In the event that a non-Jew submits a request, he/she should write the father’s name and not the mother’s.
-
What are the chances that problems will be resolved?
Since this isn’t a test and the answer received depends upon the person submitting the request, coupled with the fact that the Rebbe is a true prophet, success is guaranteed. Failure to receive an answer is unheard of.
-
I’m not religious. Can I also use the “Igrot Kodesh”?
Yes. The Rebbe doesn’t differentiate between the religious and non-religious. A blessing is given regardless of affiliation.
-
I didn’t understand. Who should I contact?
In instances when an answer received isn’t clear one should call or e-mail using the information on the site or go to a Chabad House nearest you.
-
Is there confidentiality?
Yes. Privacy is guaranteed since no one receives the personal information, nor is the request stored once it’s sent. Furthermore, there’s no need to supply personal identification and as a result there’s no follow up.
-
Do I need to pay for the service?
No. The “Igrot Kodesh” online service is provided by volunteers on site. On occasion the person submitting the request receives a blessing, as per the contents of the letter, in addition to a request to give charity. Any contribution is not intended for the Internet site or to those that run it. Instead, it should be given to any charitable cause for the poor, to a synagogue, to a yeshiva or to whatever cause as per the discretion of the sender.
-
What should I do after I did what the Rebbe told me to do in the letter?
The only thing to do is to carry out the contents of the letter, thereby resolving the problem. It’s important for questions/requests to be meaningful in order for the answer to be meaningful. Questions such as “Will I win the lottery” or similar questions are unacceptable, because submitting such a letter is comparable to meeting a tzaddik (a very righteous person) in person.
-
What should I do if the “Igrot Kodesh” doesn’t help me?
Such a phenomenon is unknown. Perhaps the answer received wasn’t clear to the reader. It would therefore be suggestible to discuss the matter over the phone, via e-mail or by going to a Chabad House nearest you.
